Open Doors Summer Camp
DEADLINE for Volunteer Applications March 31, 2010

Registrations for the 2010 Summer Camps began at the Transistion Institute at West High School in October 2009.

Due to an overwhelming response and it being listed in the Knox News Sentinel in February, we are only taking names for the waiting list for BOTH camps.

We are still accepting applications for "Volunteer and Peer Mentor" applications at this time.

Open Doors Tennessee Camp Program goals:

1. To enhance camper's leisure / social skills and engage in recreational activities appropriately
2. To increase campers use of appropriate social skills and develop long lasting friendships
3. To create positive teamwork experiences and teach acceptance
4. To boost all campers self confidence and self worth

Children served

Day Camp Kindergarten – 5th grade

6th – 12 grade Overnight Weekend Camp Our camp is designed for children with social challenges, whose diagnoses may include Autism, Asperger's Syndrome, High Functioning Autism, or related challenges. It is not appropriate for children with significant behavioral challenges. (We are working on serving all children in the furture as our support grows we plan to meet the needs of all that we can.)

Camp Counselors:

Each camp group will have 2 camp counselors who will be experienced and/or will receive autism training prior to camp. Each group will consist of 6 campers (3 with autism, 3 peer buddies) Peer training will also be addressed.

Interested campers with autism must submit the following:

Name of camper
Age of camper / grade
Diagnosis
Address
Telephone number
Email address
School child is attending
Gender

Guidlelines for 2010 Elementary Day Camp
1. Child must have completed kindergarten prior to July camp date
2. If in 5th grade, child will have completed 5th grade prior to July camp date
3. If child is not toilet trained, then a parent / family volunteer will need to accompany the child to camp

Families will be notified of their child’s acceptance to camp via EMAIL with an attached camper’s application.

There will be a camp overview meeting / autism training prior to camp. You will be notified when those details become available.

Cost of Camp:

$150 Overnight Weekend Camp
(6th – 12th grade)

$150 Elementary Day Camp.

A $25.00 charge for “Peer Buddies” includes all activities, food and housing.
